Introduction of materials that may be used in the manufacture of knife handle

Handle material

Aluminum: Like titanium, aluminium is a non-ferrous metal, usually used in handles, and has the characteristics of lightweight and strong. The most commonly used type is T6-6061 aluminium, which can be used for heat treatment. Anode surface treatment is the most common surface treatment method for aluminium materials.

Bone: A corpse of an autochthonous animal. Usually there are natural lines, especially after processing and grinding. Bones can be dyed in bright colors (such as green, blue, black, etc.) and are also a popular portable knife handle material.

Carbon Fiber: Carbon fibers made from epoxy coated and graphite pressed fibers. Its advantages are light weight and high tensile strength. Carbon fibers may be the strongest of all synthetic handle materials with low density. Its carbon-induced reflections are striking and futuristic in appearance. Carbon fiber is also a highly processed material, so it is generally used in high-end products.

Cordura: A very common scabbard material. A high toughness nylon fiber has the advantages of light weight, wear resistance and durability.

G-10: An epoxy-filled glass synthetic material. Fiber fibers are woven in the'E'shape. They have exceptionally high strength and abrasion resistance, and are light in weight. They are widely used in high-end folders and straight shank knives. Usually it's black.

Kevlar: Also known as Fiber B. It is a synthetic fiber with high hardness, high tensile strength, light weight and good wear resistance.

Kraton: A Black Thermoplastic rubber polymer used to improve toughness on handles. COLD STEEL is often used in straight shank cutters.

Kydex: A very common scabbard material. Compounds of acrylic acid and polyvinyl chloride that can be cast or moulded. The advantages are high hardness, high strength, light weight and chemical corrosion resistance.

Micarta: Another very common handle material. It is a linen or paper fabric rolled with epoxy resin and has a similar structure to G-10. Its advantages are light weight and good durability. There are no lines on the surface, the touch is very smooth and the appearance is pleasant. Handles need to be manually processed to make, is a relatively soft material, if used carelessly, will be scratched or scratched. Usually used in high-end cutting tools.

Pommel: Pommel at the back of the handle. It's an old English word.

Scales: Material that clips or sleeves outside the core to form a handle, such as Zytel, G-10, glass fiber, different wood, titanium, etc.

Stag: Stag: The antlers of stags, natural materials, in the light of fire, there will be a light flooding. It is a very elegant portable knife handle material.

The handle core (Tang): is an extension part of the blade, clamped between two handle plates, or inserted into the reserved hole of the whole handle to install the handle. "Full core" means that the core of the handle is equal to the length of the handle and runs through the whole handle to the back end.

Titanium: A nonmetallic alloy, most commonly used is 6AL/4V: 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium, and 90% pure titanium. It is lightweight and has better corrosion resistance than any metal material. It has mild handle and can be treated with anode surface or pearlescent. In addition to the handle, titanium is also used as a thread lock material because of its good elasticity.

Zytel: A widely used handle material invented by Du Pont. It is a kind of thermoplastic containing glass fiber and Kevlar (Fiber B). Of all synthetic materials, it is the cheapest, so it is used by various tools and tools. It has a high impact and abrasion resistance which is known as non-destructive. By the way, many people complain that Zytel will deform after a long time. Zytel has fine lines on its surface, but usually the manufacturer uses it as a handle and adds a rougher surface to increase these lines.
